Guest Class Series – Hortan Basics with Alysea Darby

Movement Arts Atlanta is happy to announce the next instalment in our Guest Class Series, Horton Basic with Alyseia Darby. The class will be held on Saturday, March 16 from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm at the Dance Space at Inman Park United Methodist Church. The class is $25 and is for dancers ages 11 through adult with a least two years of dance experience in ballet and/or modern dance. Class size is limited to 20.

The 2-hour class will include both the technique and history of American Modern Dance Pioneer Lester Horton. It will be a great introduction and in-depth look at the work of Lester Horton for the young student or the mature modern dance artist.

Ms. Darby is currently the Programs Director and Principal Female Artist for Atlanta Dance Connection. Ms. Darby is originally from Louisiana where she received here training and started her professional career at age 17. While receiving her degree at Louisiana State, she was a featured dancer in many shows including two Debbie Allen Productions, All The Right Moves, and Derek’s Song and New Venture Theatre’s Productions of Shout and The Color Purple. In 2016, she relocated to Atlanta and joined Element Circus Troupe as Principal Aerialist & Assistant Director and Atlanta Dance Connection.

Ms. Darby has performed in two production connected to Movement Arts Atlanta. In 2023, she was a principal dancer for Jesus and The Beatles and in December of 2024 she was a part of the dance ensemble of Inman Park United Methodist’s Christmas concert. Both these production featured choreography by MMA Director, Carolyn Stine McLaughlin.
